Green filling the gap for seniors who want to remain in community

GREEN As construction continues on the Gables of Green assisted living facility, at 2045 Franks Parkway, the 66-unit community is but the latest in a number of independent living, assisted living, and nursing facilities being built in the city in the past 10 years.

Mayor Gerard Neugebauer said the phenomenon likely has as much to do with the families of the city's growing senior population as it does with the seniors themselves. Not only are more seniors choosing to remain in community they have been a part of for years, Neugebauer said, but the adult children of seniors are bringing their parents to Green in growing numbers as well.

"When I visit some of these (senior housing facilities), you'd be surprised how many people are from Texas and Florida and other places," he said.
